New Brunswick Chamber of Commerce

Key Priorities

The Chamber network is the most influential business association in Canada and is the national leader of public policy advocacy on regional, national and international business issues. The New Brunswick Chamber is focused on fostering a strong, competitive economic environment that benefits New Brunswick and improves the standard of living of all Canadians. Our key policy priorities to achieve this are:

Fiscal Policy

  • Pursuing a comprehensive strategy to limit the impact of the recession on Canada, and to speed recovery
  • Working with the Canadian Chamber and APCC to monitor the effectiveness of federal and provincial government budgets to stimulate the economy, and restore consumer and business confidence.
  • Providing additional support for Canadian credit markets, as needs arise, by utilizing all tools at the government’s disposal.

Domestic Policy

  • Dealing with climate change and clean air while maintaining a strong economy and ensuring that it’s consistent with Canada’s overall energy strategy.
  • Developing an energy strategy that supports a competitive business environment and includes environmentally-sound, cost-effective uses of all available economic energy sources.
  • Developing a multi-modal national transportation strategy for Canada as well as a national infrastructure strategy, including gateway, border and
    communications infrastructure.
  • Working with the Canadian Chamber and APCC to promote e-business solutions for small business and develop an e-commerce strategy.
  • Removing barriers to internal trade in Canada, including the removal of barriers to labour mobility.
  • Achieving the benefits of “Smart Regulation”.
  • Ensuring Competition Law amendments meet the needs of Canadian business and key recommendations from the Competition Policy Review Panel are implemented, such as relaxing foreign investment thresholds.
  • Working with the Canadian Chamber and APCC to ensure that the Immigration system effectively helps New Brunswick meet its skilled resources needs.
  • Strengthening the intellectual property rights environment in Canada by enacting effective anti-counterfeit legislation with proper enforcement measures.
  • Defeating Canada Labour Code amendments that would harm Canadian business and the economy overall.
